Mélissa means “bee” or “bright flame” in Greek. And, as it happens, bees became a recurring motif throughout the writing of this album.
With At My Softest, I Am Most Dangerous, Mélissa Laveaux offers an unsettling take on indie pop. The psychedelic fingerpicking arpeggios of the electric guitars played by Cavard and Laveaux echo one another, evoking both 1970s Latin rock and the contemporary pop of Sherwyn, Young Fathers and even Martina Topley-Bird. Particular care has been devoted to the vocals and backing harmonies, which embody the various spirits encountered along the journey.
