Free*: Adjective. Describes someone who has the power and the right to make their own decisions and act for themselves. Even if that means making reggae music while being white and singing “BABYLON WANTS TO CENSOR US” without really knowing what Babylon is!! Free to wear tinted sunglasses, to have been in a relationship for 20 years with… with whom, again? Free to be left-wing while dreaming of getting rich enough to flee to Switzerland and butter one’s own biscuit in the sunshine of tax evasion. Free to think so… or not.
Free to be a bit of a redneck, a bit gay, but still completely straight. Free to be human and own up to one’s thoughts and contradictions. Free to put them out there on stage, and you’re free to take them or leave them… (Please take them, I’d quite like to get rich sooner rather than later).
So come, you, me, all of us! Free to be who we are, free for as long as we’re alive, free for as long as we can love, mess around and laugh.
